It seems like they are seeing how much it sticks to him.  They let an article about it appear in their NYTimes.  I think many libs would be ok with Biden not being the nominee.  He served his purpose in beating Bernie and now they might replace him.  It is basically the same plan they would have run with the Vice Presidential pick, just a bit sped up.
