I seem to get a better idea of what’s actually going on in the States reading what ordinary Americans have to say about events in their country than reading news from major USA networks . I guess thats why its often labled as ‘fake news’ because it doesn’t really reflect what the average person is thinking down south

I find I don’t often agree with folks on the Democratic Left nor the Republican Right

USA seems very polarized these days, with a level of social division much deeper than Canada.

Extremists appear to be dictating the social agenda in the United States lately

Well 1 thing I find incredible is that people who vote for Trump seem to be getting their social benefits cut back. Yet they’ll still support him & a political party that favors the rich.

In Canada a woman is guaranteed 1 year maternity leave with unemployment insurance benefits.

People tell me waitresses in many US states make only 2 or 3 dollars an hour.

Where I live the minimum wage is going up to $15 Canadian an hour which is probably $11 American.

But at least the waitresses get that much too.

Plus they’re guaranteed health benefits no matter how poor or unemployed they are

Scandinavian countries are much the same.  The problem in the US, is that most Americans would love all the benefits, but don't want the taxation that comes with it.

I guess it depends what kind of society people want.

There seems to be hardly any money left over to play with if you live in Quebec.

Life is expensive. I imagine many  people living in Montreal are broke.

But their crime rate is lower than the rest of Canada too.

Quebec City, a City of about 600,000 went a couple of yesrs with 0 murders.

Prince Edward Island, a province the size of Rhode Island also had 0 murders a couple of years too.

I dunno. Maybe those people love each other more than in the rest of the Country

What's that got to do with your use of it? Oh yeah, nothing.

My mother is elderly and retired for years now. Never once has she had a problem with accessing care or the quality of the care.

Allow me to educate you folks. Medicare is PAID FOR BY US! It aint a typical socialist handout anymore than SSI. My greedy capitalistic paycheck stub has a line item for the medicare I will someday use. Yea, thats right, I'm forced to make payments for shit I aint even using yet.
