AIDS is fueled by promiscuity. Back in the old days when people would stay with one partner for their entire lives it wasn't a problem. Imagine your son or daughter is a first responder in an area prone to devastating hurricanes and there's been a hurricane watch for several days along the high risk coastal area where our imaginary circumstance is taking place. FOR DAYS now the authorities have called for a complete evacuation of the area citing eminent danger to life.

I was trying to get the person to understand the concept through an analogy.

In the context of your argument I am inclined to agree that the individual you cite is a victim provided they are in a monogamous relationship with ONE person and have dispensed with the use of protection under the assumption that fidelity would be something cherished in the union.

In that circumstance the person you mention is indeed a victim.

But if the same person is sleeping around with various partners unprotected then they are most certainly not a victim, but rather, an architect of their own demise.

The is no way to have a society free of consequence for any action and still consider that society, civil.
