If I were a Queens resident in need of a job I'd certainly rather see 3 billion in tax breaks go to an entity capable of providing a job rather than it be thrown away on garbage as the city is currently doing.

There are trade offs. If the people are pissed in NY, does that mean they're all "corporate whore" enablers or just want jobs and the money they bring to the local economy?

One wonders.  The 20th century was proof that communism and socialism don't work. 

I'm all for a generous social safety net, but we all, including the wealthy, contribute to the taxes and also reallocate them appropriately.   The average citizen in Nordic countries pays a shitload of taxes, and they live more modestly on average than Americans.  But they get a lot for their taxation, healthcare, education, and other social benefits. But we ALL have to pay more.   The Nordic model does not include huge taxes on business and their regulations aren't as stringent either.

Why can't we have that discussion in this country?

I don’t really believe Amazon’s story, that 1 20 something junior congresswoman causef them to pull out. In Canada and other countries OC would be a backbencher, a minor figure in any government. At best shes just a figurehead in American politics

Well what is puzzling about Amazon’s decision to consolidate the new hq in just one state, Virginia, is why no other state was in line as a replacement for New York? Why not Texas or dome ither prominent state?

This suggests that Amazon thought they could get as much done with far less manpower than was originally planned.

A corporate entity doing what you'd expect a corporate entity to do. Act in a manner most consistent with self benefit. 

Just like if you were shopping for an Audi and you had a choice between two dealerships in the area. Dealership A charges 45,000.00 for the car you want but the owner is a prick who cheats on his wife and curses at his employees or dealership B where the owner is a really nice guy who feeds the poor twice a year and plays backgammon with little old ladies at the local nursing home once a month. He sells the same exact vehicle for 65,000.00

Which dealership are you buying your car from?

You see, capitalism and big business are not about feeling good and fuzzy inside, they're about making money. Create a situation that is hostile to their bottom line and they'll in turn create a situation hostile to the most vulnerable of all corporate burden costs. Human labor.

Be it layoffs, a move to another state or even to another country you can rest assured that government cannot wield a totalitarian stick against an entity which does not require any single geographic presence to thrive and expect to come out victorious.
