Now, a landmark United Nations report has found that the loss of plant and animal species around the world will increase drastically in the coming years, at a rate unprecedented in human history.

As many as a million animal and plant species are now threatened with extinction, many within decades, according to the report, which was produced by hundreds of scientists around the world. That could have a grave impact on food supplies, medicines, air quality, and much more, according to the report from the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.
