Springfield is only the statutory capitol of Elanoy.  There are virtually no dems there, it's in the middle of a sea of red.  But it's only a quarter million people.  I think Peoria and Rockford and Quincy are all larger.

Pretty much. Quincy is a LOT smaller. Rockford is just a bit smaller. Springfield has become a metropolis to a degree whereas the Quincy and Rockford havent. Peoria has a smattering of small towns starting with Morton that go all the way to Bloomington/Normal. I spend a lot of time in the Chicongo for my job. People just cant understand the amount of concentrated humanity there without seeing it for themselves, I know I didnt. St Louis (the hellinois side) is the other part that sways elections.
